Why Are Parrots So Good at Mimicking Us? New Research Sheds Light

Humans have been fascinated by parrots for hundreds of years.

And this fascination is mostly due to their ability to mimic us.

Parrots are great at mimicking us. Some of them are not just great, but extraordinary at it (like the African Grey Parrot Einstein – see below)!

Ever wondered why that is? What makes parrots so good at mimicking humans?

A new piece of research sheds light on why this is.

The research, conducted by the Oregon Health & Science University, has found that regions of the parrot genome which determine when and how the genes for brain development become active are similar to those in humans.

And this is why parrots are so surprisingly good at talking and mimicry. Well, not surprising anymore, because now we know!

Nature is fascinating.

What do you think of this new research? and parrots?

Do you have any first-hand experience with parrots’ ability to mimic us?
