Top 10 Best Sylvester Stallone Movies

If you’re a fan of action movies, Sylvester Stallone surely has been a quintessential part of the movies you’ve seen. Stallone is one of the best action actors around, despite having been around for a while. Age has not diminished his appeal, if the latest Expendables (or any of his other latest movies, in fact) is anything to go by.
But which of his movies are absolutely must-watch? Which are his best movies? Well, best is a matter of taste, but we are using that to mean the most entertaining movies (after all, what’s the point of watching a movie, especially an action movie, if it’s not fun). In that respect, we have compiled a list of ten of his top movies, ten that we believe are really fun and are absolutely worth watching.
Check them out below.

Best Sylvester Stallone Movies

Here are 10 of the best Sylvester Stallone movies (in no particular order):
  1. Rambo 3 – One of the best action movies ever made, Rambo 3 isn’t just worth watching because Stallone’s in it. It does a great job of combining all the elements that makes an action movie truly fun. There’s a compelling narrative, there’s drama, adventure, suspense, struggles, and of course, great action sequences and lots of fire fights. This is a must-watch for every action movie fan.
  2. Rocky – The movie that started one of the longest running and most successful movie sequels of all time, Rocky basically defined the boxing movie genre. It did a lot more than that though, as it firmly established Sylvester Stallone as one of the most successful actors ever, and got him nominated for Oscar for both his acting and his screenplay. If you want a compelling storyline with real grit, like stories of underdogs, and struggles and triumphs, you will love this movie. Also, this sets the stage for all the other Rocky movies, so it is sort of essential watching.
  3. Demolition Man – If you’re a fan of action sci-fi movies, you can’t really go wrong with Demolition Man, which stars two of the best action actors in Hollywood, Stallone and Wesley Snipes. The movie is based around a police officer who is cryogenically preserved, and then unfrozen in the future when a super-villain (Wesley Snipes) gets loose and creates havoc. It has great action sequences, a fun storyline, and the future-tech is interesting to compare against. Worth watching.
  4. The Expendables – Think about one of your favourite action heroes. Now look at the roster of actors in the movie The Expandables. It is highly likely your favourite action hero will feature in this movie. The Expandables isn’t just great because of the star-studded cast, it does a genuinely good job of creating an action movie that is gripping and entertaining until the very last moment. One of Stallone’s more recent movies, it has everything a great action movie needs, and more.
  5. Tango & Cash – A detective drama and action movie, Tango & Cash is a fun one to watch. It’s about two hotshot detectives who are framed by a criminal, and then have to fight for their freedom, lives, and justice. Spoiler alert, things end well for the detectives, but not so well for the criminal who framed them.
  6. The Specialist – A story of revenge and redemption, the specialist centers around a hitman who’s enlisted by a woman to avenge the murder of her parents. Things, of course don’t go according to plan, and it is fun to watch how it all unfolds in this classic Stallone movie.
  7. Escape Plan – Another one of Stallone’s more recent movies, Escape Plan quite clearly establishes the fact that age has not diminished his acting chops, or his appeal as an action hero. The storyline is intriguing, and spins quite the web of suspense. There are several moments in the movie you just won’t see coming. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s team-up with Stallone makes this movie all the more fun, and appealing.
  8. Assassins – Stallone has had some great team-ups, one of his best probably being with Antonio Banderas in Assassins. A cat and mouse story about a top assassin finding himself at the end of a gun, Banderas and Stallone create a movie that is highly watchable and very entertaining. A great action movie, and definitely one of the best action movies starred by Stallone.
  9. Judge Dredd – Stallone has done lots of action movies. But what sets them (and him) apart is how they aren’t always in exactly the same genre, which helps keep them interesting. Case in point is Judge Dredd, a dystopian action movie. Based on a future where the world is ruled under marshal law, and the streets are kept in check by police officers who are judge, jury, and executioner all in one, this is one the best dystopian action movies ever. If you like dystopian action movies, you will love this.
  10. Cliffhanger – Stallone is synonymous with action movies, but that’s not the only type of movies he does. Cliffhanger is a great example of that. More an adventure thriller movie than action, Cliffhanger features Stallone as a mountain climber who’s on a mission to rescue some stranded group of climbers. The locations are beautiful, the narrative is gripping, and there are some compelling twists. Gripping movie.
